AVI PITCHON gives a glowing review of the Cranes gig at London's ICA in December's issue of Terrorizer Magazine -of all places! Here is what it said for those of you who cannot get hold of a copy -see what you think:

"Cranes look like they just walked out of their living rooms and onto the stage. The whole setting brings to mind a family reunion, which, in a way, it is. Cranes, once arena openers for the Cure, have become a hermetic entity, opening up to embrace only those who kept the faith in their secret garden of beautiful sadness sounds. Cranes' frequency nowadays is more elusive than ever, meditative fine tuning needed to home in on their ghostly emanation. It is symbolically appropriate then, that the first song tonight is 'Fagile' off their previous album 'Future Songs'. For the privileged few who made it to the ICA, it feels like being knighted by an invisible order. Several tracks off new album 'Particles and Waves' get their London debut, as the starkly naked walls of the theatre are lit up by strangely enlarged household lightbulbs, endowing electricity itself with a sense of arcane, nostalgic awe. The entire side one of 'Forever' minus 'Cloudless' is scattered throughout the set. Frosty heartbreakers like 'Future Song' and 'Flute Song' make way for a legacy of soaring, warmer hyms, from 'Everywhere' to 'Shining Road' to the new, cathartic 'Vanishing Point'. When they tear into the discordant, unnerving 'Lilies', a friend rings, remaining on the line to listen until last encore 'E.G Shining', mesmerized, a born again Cranes fan. "

The only point I have to contest in this review is the mention of the new album songs getting their "London debut" at the ICA??!! when I have witnessed songs from 'Particles and Waves' played before the ICA gig at London's 'Bush Hall' (and though not in London - 'The Wedgewood' rooms in Portsmouth) However - a nice review - if nothing more than unexpected in such an an unlikely magazine to cover the blissed out tones of The Cranes.

cool review. thanks for sharing. lots of big words in there too. what exactly is Terrorizer Magazine? kind of an inappropriate title in today's day and age.

Hello - "thank you" for the "thank you" !!

I would probably sum "Terrorizer" up as a London published magazine which tends to be quite specialist -concentrating on black metal - mainly "corps paint" bands that are exports from Northern Europe and also noisecore and anything offensive or harsh...such as Whitehouse and Gorgoroth ....hence my surpise that the Cranes were reviewed considering their more peaceful approach of late.

They are bound to have a website online that you can have a scoot round if your interested cos I'm not too knowledgable about that type of stuff - it was my boyfriend's magazine! Otherwise I would never have found the review myself!

Ta ra for now...
