I'm Johan, 35 years old and I live near Antwerp.

I discovered Cranes in 1991 (or maybe 1990) before Wings of Joy was out.

I saw them play Starblood on Mtv. (the show hosted by Paul King I guess).
They looked very interesting. Very Happy The guys with dreadlocks, piercings, black clothes, and Ali looking sexy, screaming ...
I had never seen something like that.

When Wings of Joy was out, I was completely sold. First time I saw them live was in 1992, and I have seen them like 20 times since.
Nearly all Belgian gigs and quite a lot in the Netherlands.

I've grown up with Gothic , postpunk and New Wave, so no wonder I liked Cranes when I first heard them. But I still like them, even now their sound has changed.

Other bands I like(d) :

Swans, Joy Division, Siouxsie, Mission,The Cure, NIN, Rammstein, Tindersticks, 16 horsepower, Mazzy Star, Elysian Fields, Shivaree, PJ Harvey, Lush, Curve, Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, Love Spirals Downwards, Heather Nova, Tori Amos, Lily Holbrook, Leah Andreone, Sarah Mclachlan ....

Mainly all good Goth, singer songwriter, ethereal and alternative bands from 1980 - now.

I've got a few collectors items of Cranes and a lot from SWANS (135 items), and I've seen Heather Nova live for 45 times so you can say I'm quite a freak !

Hello,
Im Mark and I used to be in the Cranes. Now I live in Oslo Norway. I first heard of them when my previous band appeared on a compilation tape in Portsmouth UK, My collegue and I were so impressed by the Cranes track (Vegetate) that we made a video for it. (Using found footage of Vikings can you believe... and now Im living in Scandinavia... weird)

Alison and Jim were brought round to my place to see the video, I of course fell in love immediatly and tried to get to know her better. We got to be "great friends" (DOH! Blew that...) and one day, when they needed to play live they asked me to help (this was about Self Non Self time). At this time Cranes were plying with Uncle Ian often and I would sometimes have to do 2 gigs in one night fun fun fun...

The first time I saw them live was at Portsmouth Guildhall 1987(or was it '86??) "Against the tide" festival, Jim Ali and backing tape. the NEXT time was after I quit in 97, at a show in London.

cheers

mark

I had never heard of Cranes.

I was at a "MURMURS" concert in Providence, Rhode Island.
This was back in the mid 90's. At the venue, they were promoting the upcoming Cranes concert and were giving out free cassettes of the Loved tape. There were 4-5 songs on the tape. I put the tape in on the way home from the concert. I liked it a lot and bought the entire CD the next day. I don't have all their CD's but I have 3 of them. I downloaded all the songs I could to particles and waves and I like all of them. I am bummed the US tour is cancelled, I was psyched to see them.

All of my favorite bands are nowhere to be found or never tour, or broke up: Sundays, Sinead O'connor, Smiths, Cranes, and SADE.

I guess I will have to become a fan of Brittany Spears or System of a Down or something...at least they tour.... Rolling Eyes
