i had a tape just marked cranes which had one song on it which was one of my favourite crane songs and i'm desperately trying to track it down as said tape broke last week...
i don't know the name of it but i can describe it
it only has, as far as i know, strings, a flute and alison shaws vocals in it...
it starts with very deep strings and i guess the tone could be described as sad....it had a line which sounded like "and i'd do anything to something something again"
it's pre 96, as that's when i got the tape...
i'd be eternally grateful if someone could point me in the right direction...
thanks...

It was a b-side to the Jewel single I believe. Not on an album.

I'm not sure if this is the song you're thinking of though. I've never been any good at this game, but that line is in that song and it's the first song that popped into my head.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Yes, Leave Her to Heaven appears is the Lilies EP and the UK and German versions of the Jewel CD (but not the U.S. release). I don't know about the 7"s-- check Starblood.org.
You're heard Leave Her To Heaven II, which has a string arrangement. Leave Her to Heaven I has the same structure with more-traditional Cranes instrumentation. The German CD with green coloring contains both versions. Lilies and the UK CD have LHtHII. The lyrics are available in the lyric book.
